Koral Kiss

We are very lucky to have talented bartender @holliewrightxx  create a cocktail especially for us that showcases Greenstone Gin. Inspired by themes of family, unity, Mother Nature, and voyage. In her own words, she shares the inspiration behind this creation and the story it represents:

Showcasing Kiwi Spirit Distillery’s very own Greenstone Gin: a beautiful gin filled with botanicals, herbs and the purity of natural spring waters produced within New Zealand itself.

Here I’ll tell you a story of family, dreams and passions.

Hidden in a crescent shaped beach town known as Golden Bay in the southern island of NZ lies a family owned distillery, one that honours perfection, tradition, natural produce and is forever coming up with bold new ideas: the Kiwi Spirit Distillery. A land covered in agave, family traditions and one’s own creations.

This is just some of the inspiration that helped me create this cocktail; one that would capture you and take you on a journey with myself and their family.

Koral Kiss is not just an ordinary cocktail - it’s a drink that represents a family, one that together dreamed of being the first to grow agave in New Zealand; a family that today even generations after, wants to keep the dream alive, and continue to follow their ethos of keeping the land and water looked after; it’s the dreams of a daughter and son who want to follow in their father’s footsteps whilst bringing their own passions into the mix; it’s a vision that will continue to grow their business which lies at the heart of their beloved country: New Zealand.

For this cocktail, I’ve combined flavours of lemongrass, rosemary, salt, greenstone gin, fresh lemon and orange citrus foam, all inspired from the gin itself due its very own tasting notes consisting of orange blossom, peppercorn, juniper berries and spices.

With my own love and experience crossing oceans and diving in the Great Barrier Reef, I wanted to create the illusion of a piece of coral sat on top of a crystal clear ocean inspired by the natural waters of New Zealand. With rosemary and lemongrass being garden based and herbal produce, I wanted to showcase these within my drink. Shown on the bottle itself, the waves are a powerful symbol representing the family: their unity, journey and connection. When the ocean carries stories, memories of the past, present and future are shared across generations.

In order to get this particular look and flavour, I clarified the gin, lemongrass, rosemary, saline solution and fresh lemon three times, and then I topped it with a homemade orange citrus foam to create the finished look.

I give you Koral Kiss
